Asilomar and the Reunion

The timeless beauty of the white sand beaches and wind-sculptured forests of the Asilomar Conference Center and State Beach has attracted seekers of peace and nature for over eighty years. Originally established as a YWCA retreat in 1913, Asilomar takes its name from Spanish and Greek Roots to mean "Refuge-by-the-Sea".

Asilomar Conference Center is situated on the tip of the Monterey Peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Asilomar occupies 105 secluded acres of forest and dune, minutes from all the other attractions of the Monterey Peninsula. Golf on world famous courses, tennis on the hundreds of courts that dot the Peninsula, enjoy fishing, shopping and dining in nearby Carmel, Monterey, and Pacific Grove.

Plan to take full advantage of Asilomar's natural setting. Just over the dunes, Asilomar State Beach stretches for over a mile. Forested pathways and swimming pool are on the grounds. The services of a State Park Ranger are available for slide talks and nature walks. Volleyball is available. Evening barbecues and bonfires are also popular among the guests. Off grounds, Asilomar can make all arrangements for golf, tennis, fishing and tours of one of America's most scenic areas.

So be sure to plan to bring your entire family to the Gefroh Family Reunion scheduled for mid-July 2000. Once dates are confirmed with Asilomar, they will be announced.

Family Tree

Lori and Matt Grim are working on this project (click here for more info from the December 1998 Gefroh Gazette) and are attempting to collect information from all of the families. Currently, only a small percentage of the 450 families have provided complete information - we have a Family Group Record form that is very handy to capture all crucial information for the Family Tree. You can display and print out the on-line Family Group Record form if you have the Adobe Acrobat reader installed on your system (see below). Or you can contact Matt (magrim@aol.com), or Lori Grim (rljgrant@jps.net) via email to get additional information.

Click on the "tree" below to see what we have so far...and help us to fill in the gaps...

Keep in mind we're still working on the family tree
and looking for any additional information you can provide...

Matt Grim has put together an informal diagram that you might find useful

To complete the family tree information we need to know:

MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The following information (where applicable) is needed from each and every family member, from the youngest to the oldest, to complete the Gefroh Family Tree. Please be detailed and specific in regards to multiple marriages, stepchildren, etc. so we may accurately reflect our family lineage.

  • first, middle, last (maiden) name
  • date and place of birth
  • date and place of marriage
  • date and place of divorce
  • date and place of death

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: We are also compiling a narrative of each family member so our descendants can know a little more about who we were after we're gone. Please provide the following info if you wish; otherwise, your place in the narrative will only contain the above information.

  • school (name, city, state) and date of graduation (high school, college, trade)
  • military service (branch, dates served, places stationed)
  • career
  • sports
  • hobbies
  • namesake
  • other (can include foreign languages, special interests or accomplishments)

Please direct any questions, concerns, ideas, suggestions, etc. to:

E-mail addresses

Click here to get the E-mail addresses we currently have for all the Gefroh descendants out there. I'm sure there are a lot more folks who are online. So, if you'd like to add your name to the list, then send an e-mail to either Trish Andersen (trishzz@aol.com) or Matt Grim (magrim@aol.com). It's a great way to stay in touch.
